Carmina Duo
Pippa Marland ,vocals and saxes, has a voice that has the beauty, appeal and quality that has produced critical acclaim from critics across Europe, a voice that has been described as “utterly angelic and soothing to the soul”.
Rob King, guitars and mandolin, is the melodic force of the music, and an exemplary player, using various tunings. Indeed it is Rob’s arrangement skills that bring out the songs’ full potentials. Pippa and Rob met at Bristol University in 1987 and began working together, performing and writing music as an acoustic duo.
In 1992 they began work on the line-up and repertoire that became a six piece band and produced an excellent album of original material, taking in elements of contemporary Celtic music, jazz and rock. The album, “Weather In The Heart” was recorded in Dublin, produced by Donal Lunny and rightly gained a world wide release.
Carmina Trio
Carmina last appeared at The Prom as a duo, although they are in fact the driving force behind a six piece band, playing original material of a contemporary Celtic, jazz and rock mix. This time they are appearing as a trio, adding piano to compliment guitar and sax.
Maybe we could see the full six piece some time!
