From Cornwall comes one of the most innovative and exciting bands of the nu-folk scene. Whether it’s Celtic, Balkan, Gypsy, Spanish, Cornish or other World Music you are drawn to, you will hear its influences in their self-written music. Add to this the band’s varied backgrounds from Dance, Dub, Punk, Reggae and Traditional Folk, and you have a stunning combination.

It’s quirky, it’s groovy, it’s fun … we dare you not to dance!! The band have had great success at venues and festivals all over England and Europe, including recently supporting the Oysterband. Other highlights include Off the Tracks, Castle Donnington; Peterborough Folk Festival; Folk Segovia, Spain; Lorient Interceltic Festival, France; Kevelaer World Music Festival and Bochum Total, Germany. This year the band have hurtled full pelt into the English festival scene, playing storming sets at festivals including: Larmer Tree, Glastonbury, Big Green Gathering, Bath fringe, Shambhala, Maker Sunshine, and Beautiful Days. In August the band were also invited by Show of Hands to play the main stage at the Eden Project. Their fan base is rapidly growing all over Europe, and due to popular demand the band are already recording new songs for their third album.

Come and see for yourself this exciting world influenced acoustic music, with a hint of the bizarre, you will not regret it.

His songs are a mixture of contemporary adult pop and acoustic rock.

In July 2005 Al went into the studio to record his first solo EP. The EP contains three original tracks, “My Muse”, “Bonnie and Clyde” and “The Painter”.

Since the release of the EP, he has been continuously performing live gigs all over Bristol and Cardiff

Although still only 21, Al has been performing and composing for over 5 years. He started at 16 as the lead singer of “Bluewood”, a student band in North Wales, where he quickly developed a passion for music and song writing. During this time he played gigs to audiences across Wales.

This was followed by his first two years at the University of Bristol where he assimilated himself into the live music scene there. After several solo performances in Open Mic events he decided to set up his second band “Sexy Russian” with three fellow university students. In 2004 they enjoyed great success playing in many venues across Bristol.

In September 2004 Al moved to Toulouse, France. This experience allowed him to develop his song writing skills. He was constantly writing more material, drawing his inspiration from life in a foreign country. During his time there he was able to play several acoustic concerts that were all very well received.

Al plans to return to the studio later on this year to record his debut album, which he plans to release and distribute independently on his own label. At the same time he plans to move down to London to continue to do what he loves doing most, performing live!!

This demo ended up selling over 1000 copies. With the success of this, Amy formed her own record label (Monster Music) and recorded her debut album ‘Lost for Words’. Officially launched at the Gold Coast Oceanfest, Croyde, North Devon on June 18th 2005. It was recorded at Gateway studios, Kingston, London by respected engineer Steve Lowe, assisted by Gurjit Dhinsa with experienced musician and producer Derek Johnson (who she met after performing at the ‘Crown’, Glastonbury Festival in 2004) Derek acquired some of London’s finest musicians for the project: Alpheous Little (fretted/fretless bass), Chris Wilson (Piano), Jose Joyette (Drums) All these musicians have extensive solo careers in their own right.

With this team of amazing people working along side her, Amy recorded 15 original tracks laying down all guitar parts and vocals. The result is not to be missed

Live Review – Hatchfest (May 2006):

…The taste sensation of Hatchfest was Bizali. Four young students, they performed with the assurance and skill of seasoned players while having as much fun as the delighted crowd. Their original material blends soul and pop marinated in jazz and underpinned by super-smart drum and bass playing that effortlessly slips between funk and swing. They recalled the Pointer Sisters at times, with vocalist Blythe Pepino milking each song to the max.

Although the members of the Dana Wylie Band hail from rural areas on opposite sides of the Atlantic, it was in a bustling Asian metropolis where it had its first incarnation. The band’s music fully embraces both rural and urban influences, stretching from blues and soul, through jazz and cabaret, to roots and folk. Their unique style, featuring Dana’s powerful vocals and sparkling wit, accompanied by a variety of instruments, never fails to turn head.

After several years of singing “other people’s words” as a music theatre actress, Dana turned her focus to writing and performing original material, moving to Asia for a quiet respite from Canada’s theatrical scene. In Taiwan, she was instead plunged into a lively music scene, playing solo at corporate functions, with David Chen’s Muddy Basin Ramblers, leading her own bluegrass outfit The Wylie Brothers, and forming the Dana Wylie Duo with Englishman Jeremy Hellard.

Asked to comment on Dana’s demo, Jeremy had replied, “I’d like it better if I had played on it”, and the duo was born. A gifted drummer, guitarist, singer, and virtuosic harmonica player, Jeremy has a versatility and sensitivity that perfectly complements Dana’s piano and songwriting style.

Dana and Jeremy moved to the U.K. in 2005, and had a promising start as a duo, playing venues such as London’s legendary Jazz Cafénd The Horns in Watford, before finding the perfect bass player in Corin Wright, Jeremy’s childhood friend and bandmate.

Corin’s sound has given even more warmth and depth to Dana’s songs, and the newly formed band has been gigging like mad, and has been featured on various local BBC Radio stations. They plan to release their first album in 2006.

With these words echoing from every television set in the heartland of blue collar America, the solo career of Dave Sharp, co-founder and lead guitarist of British rock band, The Alarm, was launched in the United States in 1991. Fifteen minutes later, centre stage at the Ryman Auditorium, a shadowy, lone figure, Dave Sharp-Brit rock guitar player turned troubadour-had found his way into the hearts and minds of an American core country audience with the song ”Hard Travelin,” no mean feat for a boy from Salford. It had all begun in 1989, a year, which had seen the US release of the Alarm’s 5th coast-to-coast hit album Change and #1 AOR single ”Sold Me Down The River”. The Alarm toured with Bob Dylan, sold out arenas and theatres-indoors and out-played the talk shows, rose through the ranks with MTV. They in fact achieved what most British bands only ever dream of-the much sought-after status of ”a British Rock Band that cracked the United States”

Sharp’s music has been described as everything from folk and blues to rock country and punk. One word cannot be used when trying to describe Dave Sharp ”predictable.”

He has embraced mainstream pop culture whilst at the same time remaining one step away from its grasp. He likes it that way! ‘It’s a Mighty Hard Road to be Travelin’ Down” – Sharp knows it, writes it and sings it. In 2006 he is now back in the UK, living, breathing & working on a long-awaited acoustic follow up to his last album, ”The Power of Soul.”

Raised in Chicago and residing in Nashville, Doug Hoekstra is an artist who takes a pick-axe to the common notion of “acoustic singer-songwriter.” Americana meets avant-garde within the textures of his work, songs that combine wry observations about the human condition, inventive vocal lines, and unique arrangement touches. As Wired Magazine noted, “a lot of people write songs, Hoekstra writes five-minute worlds.”Often compared to heavyweights like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, and once called “the godfather of narrative alternative folk,” (Roots Town, Belgium), Hoekstra’ style embodies space, story, and form within music that is both inventive and accessible. He has six CD releases to his name, one book in publication, and has placed short stories and essays in numerous literary magazines.

Hoekstra the guitarist/singer/songwriter, formed Bucket Number Six in 1990, a band that wound up recording two platters (Bucket Number Six, and High on the Hog). Bucket toured extensively through the Midwest, playing country music with an edge, citing influences such as Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, and Hank Williams. After Bucket spilled its final drop, Hoekstra began recording his first solo record, When the Tubes Begin to Glow, released in early 1994. The musical journey continues with subsequent efforts Rickety Stairs (1996 Nashville Music Award Nominee for Best Folk Album of the Year), Make Me Believe (1999 U.S., 2000 Europe, earned 3 “first-phase” Grammy nominations), Around the Margins (2001 Independent Music Award finalist for Best Singer-Songwriter Album), and The Past is Never Past (2001 Europe-only odds & sods release). His latest and greatest, Waiting, was released in the U.S. 2003 on Paste Records, and in Europe in 2004 on U.K. imprint Fundamental.
